Deaconess Boards

Every Deaconess must be a faithful church member, setting an example in tithing, and attending worship services. They must be well grounded in church doctrine, and carry out their duties with a servant's heart. The Deaconess must be serious in appearance, manner and decorum. It is of vital importance that the Deaconess be especially guarded in conversation with strict adherence to the truth, “speaking the truth in love" (Eph. 4:15 ). The admonition regarding the power of the tongue (James 3:1-12) should be remembered at all times. The high office to which she is appointed and the dimensions of the task demand the best she can give.

The Deaconess Boards assist the Pastor in the observance of the Holy Communion or Lord’s Supper. Although the Deaconesses do not serve the congregation, care of the linens and the communion utensils and preparation of the sacramental element are in their charge. Preparation for the service of Holy Communion includes being sure that the linens are fresh and clean, that the trays and glasses are clean and polished, the elements (the bread and juice) are freshly prepared and the table is correctly arranged for the Pastor and his assisting ministers.
